Lead yourself first. The rest will follow.
If you're a lawyer with a few years of practice under her belt, and you're looking for something more, this program could be right for you. Read on to learn more.
Over the past two and half years, I've coached five groups of women through a six month coaching program I designed with a specific type of person in mind.
The ideal lawyer for this program is ambitious and committed to excellence. She wants to do great work at the highest level, and feel proud, satisfied and maybe even a little exhausted after a productive day at work.
At the same time, work is not the only thing that defines her. She cares about people: helping them; supporting them; connecting with them.
She cares about wellbeing: being fit and healthy, physically, mentally and emotionally. Not in a faddy way. In a way that sustains her, for the long term.
She cares about joy and fulfilment. She refuses to believe that professional success must come at the cost of living a good life. Part of the joy and fulfilment she feels comes from work. And, she also finds it in her interests, travel (when she can) and being spiritually connected, to herself and to others, and to something greater than all of us.
She loves, protects and prioritizes her family. Whether that's her biological family or her chosen one, whether she's a mother to children or not, she has people in her life that matter to her, and to whom she matters.
The person who reads this and gets what I'm saying will find herself very happy here.
In this program, you'll learn tools and strategies to perform professionally at your best. That means getting really good at goal setting, planning and following through on your plans.
You'll also learn to enhance your soft skills: boundary setting, delegating, delivering tough feedback.
You'll get to know yourself better: where to draw the lines between external measures of success and your own, other people's dreams for you and the ones you have for yourself.
You'll learn to take your emotions and, instead of pushing them to the side, use them wisely. You'll learn to use the "good" ones for greater energy and performance and use the "bad" ones to understand yourself better and grow.
If you're still reading, there's a good chance you'll enjoy being in the room. You may be wondering who else would be there with you.
The women who join me typically aren't the loudest person at the dinner party. But when they speak, people listen.
They're not likely to showcase their many achievements. Yet, their accomplishments speak for themselves.
These are the women you want in your corner.
What can you expect to talk about?
Here are some examples:
- Making the transition to partnership and developing your leadership style.
- You're a solo practitioner or leader of a small firm and you're figuring out the direction of the firm, setting the pace and establishing boundaries.
- You've been in a leadership position for some time and you're ready to advance to the next level. That may mean trading in old success strategies for new ones, and redefining the makeup of your practice.
- You're in demand and your practice is more difficult than ever to manage. You want to regain control over it.
- You're at a crossroads in your career and you want to make a decision and possibly a transition. You want support and accountability to follow through with the process so that it doesn't drift.
- You're returning to practice after a mat leave and you want to reintegrate into the firm with a clear plan and strategies to navigate your parenting and work responsibilities, along with the identity shift of being a mother and lawyer.
- You're starting in a new role and you want to give yourself the support you need to excel in it.
- You want to develop your confidence and authority in a way that aligns with your personality, not in the way that others want you to.
- You want to set better boundaries and delegate more to your team so that you can pursue the projects that will have the greatest impact.
If these are the types of challenges and opportunities you want to share with other women lawyers, keep reading and you'll learn about the logistics.
